Moving and Resizing Gates

To move or resize a gate, the gate should first be activated. This can easily be done in either of the following two ways:

1.Left-click within the gate that you wish to move/resize, or

2.Right-click anywhere within the plot, and select Activate gate from the right-click menu.

Once the gate is active, the cursor changes to the drag cursor and resizing handles appear on the vertices of the gate. The gate is ready to be moved or resized.

Moving Gates:

Once the gate is active, it can be moved in one of two ways:

1.Click and hold down the mouse button anywhere inside the gate. Move the cursor while the mouse button is pressed, and the gate will move with the cursor. Release the mouse to drop the gate into the new position.

2.Use the arrow keys on our keyboard (up, down, left, right) to reposition the gate.

If one gate falls within the boundaries of a second gate you may right click on the plotActivate gateselect the underlying gate. The position of the underlying gate may now be changed.

To cancel a gate move once you have begun, press and hold the Esc key and release the mouse button before you release the Esc key.

If you move a gate onto a blank part of a page, you will either:

Create a new plot gated on the gate, or

Delete the gate

According to the options you set in the Gate moving options section on the Gate page of the Options dialog.

Restrict the movement of a Gate to a specific plot

By default, a gate can be moved from any plot that displays the gate. This behavior can be modified and you can chose to allow moving a gate (and thus any gates linked to it) on one plot only. To do this:

oIn the gate navigator. right-click on the gate of interest

oFrom the right-click menu, select Allow this gate to be moved on plot....

oSelect the plot you want to restrict the gate movement to.

oClick OK.

Note: The procedure above automatically sets the Allow Gate Edit option for the gate of interest to Custom and take advantage of the Current Selected Object token to restrict the movement to the selected plot.

To restore the default state and thus to allow the movement from any plot that displays the gate, Format the gate of interest and set its Allow Gate Edit option to True.

Resizing Gates:

Once the gate is active (please see above), move the cursor over one of the resizing handles. You will know you are in the correct position when the cursor changes to the resize cursor, which is a two-headed arrow. With the resize cursor, click and hold down the left mouse button. Move the mouse to move the cursor and the vertex will move with the cursor. Release the mouse button to drop the vertex into the new position.

Tips: shortcuts are available to expand/shrink the active gate in a specific direction. Please refer to the FCS Express Keyboard Shortcuts chapter for more details.

To cancel a gate resize once you have begun, press the Esc key before you release the mouse button.
