Batch Processing

Batch Processing allows you to analyze many data files consecutively in a single layout without having to set up new plots for each file. Batch processing also gives you the ability to print, save, or export your layout and statistics in many different formats, including a PowerPoint presentation, a Word document, an Excel spreadsheet, a PDF file, or a text file.

Batch processing can be executed on all the Iterations in the Data List (please refer to the Organizing data files into Iterations and Controls chapter of the manual to learn more on the concept of Iterations).

During batch processing, FCS Express automatically performs a Data→Change File on All Objects→Next File command to systematically increment all the data files in your layout. The items will be incremented in their order in the Data List by the increment value specified in the batch processing options, or the currently active panel.

TIPS:

oAn entire dataset can be maintained in a fixed position on the layout/plots during batch processing by setting it as a Stationary control (see the Organizing data files into Iterations and Controls chapter).

oA specific Overlay can be maintained in a fixed position on the layout/plots during batch processing by disabling the "Change data file during Next/Prev/Batch" in it's Formatting Overlay dialog. The Formatting Overlay dialog is available for many plot types (1D plots, 2D plots, heatmaps,...). As an example, here is the link to the Formatting Overlay dialog for 1D plots. When an overlay is maintained in a fixed position, also the tokens referring to it, will be maintained fixed during Batch Processing.

oA token associated with a data file, can be maintained fixed on the layout/plots during Batch Processing by disabling the "Allow the Data file of this token to change when running Next/Prev/Batch Processing" option in its Data Sources dialog.

FCS Express allows you to define batch processes that can be performed during iteration. A Batch Process can contain any of the following:

Actions

oPrint

oSave Layout

oSave to PowerPoint

oSave as PDF

oSave as Picture

oPublish Layout

oSave Gating ML

Folders

oAdd Folder

oPrism Project

Reports

These processes allow you to export information from your layout to:

oExport to Luma

oExport to Spreadsheet (text)

oPrism XY Table (text)

oPrism Column Table (text)

oPrism Grouped Table (text)

oExcel (Column Mode) (text)

oExcel (Cell Mode) (text and images)

oWord Report (text and images)

oPDF form (text)

oText Report (text)

The information you can export includes plots (as pictures), statistics (as columns, cells, or text), and tokens (i.e., the token information displayed in the text box). Once you have chosen where to export the data by adding a Report, you assign items to transfer to that Report.

There are four distinct steps to using Batch Processing properly after you have set up your analysis layout:

1. Add the data sets you wish to analyze, in the correct order, to the Data List.

2. Add Batch Action and Report processes to the Batch Processing Action Screen.

3. Specify the Batch Processing Options.

4. Run the Batch Process.
