The Compensation Options tab allows you to chose how compensated parameters are displayed on plots in the layout (Figure 9.27). Users may choose to overwrite uncompensated parameters to only view compensated parameters, or to append compensated parameters to the list of parameters to more easily move between compensated and uncompensated parameters, or to use uncompensated parameters in pipeline transformations, for instance, FlowAI.

The Suffix for Compensated Data applies the text typed into the box as a suffix to describe the compensated data.  The text can be viewed in the Title of a plot when using the keyword $FCSE_FILENAME or $FCSE_FILENAMENOPATH.

The Suffix for New Parameters applies the text typed into the box as a suffix to identify the new compensated parameters from the uncompensated parameters. This text is only applied when the option to Append to data after uncompensated parameters has been selected.

When applying compensation, FCS Express allows the new compensated parameters to overwrite OR be appended after the original uncompensated parameters. Note these options can be changed from the User Options and Layout Options as well.

Overwrite uncompensated parameters. The default setting in FCS Express, the new compensated parameters will appear in place of the uncompensated parameters (Figure 9.28). No suffix will be used to denote the new compensated parameters. The uncompensated parameters will not be available on plot. Compensation can be removed from the plot to view uncompensated data at any time in the Overlays section of Formatting.

Append to data after uncompensated parameters. New compensated parameters will appear after the uncompensated parameters in the parameter list (Figure 9.29). The Suffix for New Parameters will be appended to each new compensated parameter name to identify the new parameter as having compensation applied.

The Compensation Options are applied in the following way:

New Layouts have their Compensation Options set from the User Options.

New Compensations, regardless of how they are added to the layout, will inherit the Compensation Options set in the Layout Options.

Note that each Compensation has its own unique set of Compensation Options (i.e. changing the Compensation Options for Comp A does not affect the Compensation Options for Comp B).

Exporting Data Files with Compensation

When exporting data files, if a compensation is set to be applied to the exported file, the Compensation Options for that compensation will be applied to the exported parameters (i.e. the settings for that compensation's New Compensated Parameters will be applied). For example, if the option to Overwrite uncompensated parameters was set all uncompensated parameters will be overwritten and no longer available in the exported file. If the option to Append to data after uncompensated parameters was selected, both compensated and uncompensated parameters will be available in the exported file.
